I keep writing in little bits and fragments and not putting them anywhere, and now I'm realizing it's been a while since this journal got any substantive updates. So here, here's things in my life.

Dropped the big pile of money today. Shoes, harness, belay equipment, membership. I am geared up.

Today has been pretty awful. Pain, still lots of pain. Now accompanied by a low fever, a swollen jaw, projectile vomiting, shooting nerve pain, and a weird red patch on my cheek. If I didn't have an appointment first thing tomorrow I would be banging down someone's door for some antibiotics.

Wednesday I had the quickest and least painful root canal ever. Under 20 minutes and it barely hurt when the novacaine wore off. They didn't seal the thing up and told me to call back to schedule an appointment. The office didn't pick up calls or return messages Thursday or Friday ( Read more... )

Week one the incisions were, y'know, incisions: flesh that was cut apart and then held together with thread and tape. They did ugly but benign things like bleed and scab. The whole leg was pretty well wrapped up and on ice all the time, and also I was on quite a lot of drugs and in quite a lot of pain, so incisions were the least of my worries ( Read more... )

Had my 5-week checkup today. It went... okay. Nothing's wrong, but I'm not healing quickly. If I haven't started making quicker progress by my next monthly appointment it'll be cause for concern; right now I'm just healing slowly, like people sometimes do ( Read more... )

In just a week, my butt has become visibly lopsided. On the left side, essentially zero activity has left everything a little smaller and flabbier than it was a week ago. And of course, a week of walking and standing on just the one leg is also showing on the right side, which is newly firm and perky. This is true in the calfs and quads as well, ( Read more... )
